S. Korean Authorities Denounced for History Distorting
Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- University professors, researchers and other intellectuals of south Korea are opposing the authorities' moves to introduce "state-compiled history textbooks".

History professors of Yonsei University refused to write "state-compiled history textbooks" on October 13 to be followed by 454 history professors of 70 universities of south Korea till October 23. Most of them are professors of Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University and other major universities.

88 university professors in Pusan, Ulsan and South Kyongsang Province signed the declaration of denying it on October 23.

Veteran historians, and teachers and new teachers and researchers held a press conference in Seoul on October 24 at which they denounced the "government" and the ruling party for staging a history coup. Then they marched as far as Kwanghwamun.

On October 27 history professors of the "National History Institute of south Korea" said in a statement that the authorities' moves to introduce "state-compiled history textbooks" is little short of a declaration of their intention to maintain power by distorting history as they please.
