National Heritage Protection Brisk in DPRK

Pyongyang, November 2 (KCNA) -- It is one year since Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, made public his work "To Protect National Heritage Is a Patriotic Undertaking for Adding Brilliance to the History and Traditions of Our Nation". In the period a radical turn has been brought about in the work to protect the national heritage in the country, Ro Chol Su, deputy director of the National Authority for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, told KCNA. In cooperation with scientific and educational institutions, the National Authority for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has discovered and registered many cultural heritages as well as intangible and natural heritages, he said, adding: A brisk drive was launched to put national heritages on the list of world's heritages. A lot of national heritages were restored to their original state, including Ryongwang Pavilion and Songbul, Kaesim and Sokwang temples. Also a work was conducted to register swinging, archery, yut-game, Korean painting and other objects as intangible heritages. As part of a campaign for protecting national heritages, such diverse events took place throughout the country as peasant dancing contest, national ssirum contest, cooking festival, Korean dress exhibition and folk games. Mt. Myohyang took on new looks with more than 20 pavilions repaired and mountain-climbing route extending some 2 500 square meters newly paved, while more scenic spots were found in Mt. Chilbo. Hundreds of thousands of trees were planted in scenic spots across the country. The Pyongyang Folklore Park renewed its appearance and history museums in local areas were renovated in a peculiar style. |
