Korean Peninsula Issue Not Plaything of U.S.: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) -- It is an urgent requirement of the times to improve the inter-Korean relations, create a climate for reconciliation and establish durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula. Minju Joson Friday observes this in a commentary. The paper goes on: What matters is the attitude of the U.S. The U.S. does not want to conclude a peace treaty with the DPRK, which may lead to the defusing of the confrontation and the start of reconciliation on the peninsula. The U.S., however, wants instable peninsula on which military standoff constantly persists, the north and the south level guns at each other and a war may break out any moment even due to an accidental incident. Only when the situation remains unstable on the peninsula can the U.S. perpetuate the presence of its troops in south Korea and massively introduce modern war hardware to contain its potential rivals in the region under that pretext. This finds a vivid expression in the U.S. attitude towards the improvement of the inter-Korean relations. The U.S. double-dealing attitude of talking much about improved inter-Korean relations and peace and stability on the peninsula and perpetrating conflicting acts can not be construed otherwise than a mockery of the Korean nation and world peace-loving people. The U.S. is sadly mistaken if it thinks it can play with the issue of the peninsula as it pleases. If it has no willingness to settle the issue with the DPRK peacefully, the DPRK will deal with the issue by its own method. The U.S. should stop its absurd behavior of painting itself as a "friend" of humankind and "war deterrent" under the veil of peace. |
