World Peace Council President Urges U.S. to Show Sincere Stand on DPRK's Proposal for Peace Treaty
Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- Socorro Gomes, president of the World Peace Council, issued a statement on Nov. 13 supporting the DPRK's proposal for concluding a peace treaty.

The state of war persists on the Korean Peninsula even in the new century which is attributable to the U.S. anachronistic and reactionary acts, he said, and went on:

The U.S. purpose is to put south Korea, its lackey, under its military control through frequent military exercises against the DPRK and further strengthen its domination over the region at the same time.

The Korean people have repeatedly clarified the stand to achieve peaceful reunification free from foreign interference but it has not yet been realized due to the U.S. interference and the anti-reunification acts of the successive south Korean chief executives who followed the U.S.

In order to prevent a war on the peninsula it is necessary for the DPRK and the U.S. to scrap the Armistice Agreement and conclude a new peace treaty to create lasting peace.

The U.S. has to discard its anachronistic hostile policy and accept the just demand of the DPRK on concluding peace treaty.

If it boldly makes a switchover in its policy, it can hold constructive dialogue with the DPRK.

He urged the U.S. to approach with sincerity the DPRK's proposal for peace treaty and stop interfering in the peninsula.
