Koryo Copper Mirror

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) -- Copper mirrors dating back to Koryo Kingdom (918-1392) have been preserved at the Korean Central History Museum, the Koryo Museum and other museums in the country as one of national treasures. Korea's mirror handicraft had a long tradition, starting from the age of Ancient Korea (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.), and further developed during Koryo Kingdom. In the period of Koryo Kingdom, copper mirror was handcrafted. Koryo copper mirrors were discovered at old tombs and temples in different parts of the country, including Kaesong City. They are diverse in shape with refined relief patterns on their backs. Typical of the patterns are those depicting animals, plants and sceneries. |
