Pyongyang, December 13 (KCNA) -- An Tong Chun, vice-chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) of the DPRK and head of the SPA delegation, made a speech at the 8th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly on December 9. He said that the security circumstances of the Asian region have become all the more complicated due to the arbitrariness and conflict of interests among powers with the strategic value growing in the Asia-Pacific region. The situation on the Korean Peninsula holds a very important proportion in ensuring peace and stability in Asia, he said, adding: The DPRK aspires after peace and wants peaceful environment in the idea of independence, peace and friendship. What is valuable for the DPRK in guaranteeing the sustained economic development and substantially improving the people's living standard is peaceful environment. The escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula is of no help to the DPRK. Since the Armistice Agreement (AA) was concluded the DPRK has made fair and realistic proposals and suggestions for replacing the AA with a peace treaty and made persistent efforts with sincerity. But the U.S., which is a party concerned and an administrator of the AA and exercising the OPECON of the south Korean army, and its followers have turned down the DPRK's just proposal. It is the DPRK's consistent stand to put an end to the tension of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful way through dialogue and negotiations and make contribution to peace and stability in the Northeast Asian region. The DPRK is convinced that to replace the AA with a peace treaty and achieve the reunification by a federal formula is the way of substantially contributing to peace and stability in the Asia and will make all sincere efforts for it. |
