Rodong Sinmun Accuses S. Korean Authorities of Pushing Inter-Korean Authorities' Talks to Stalemate

Pyongyang, December 18 (KCNA) -- It is a logical consequence of the persistent confrontation policy and arrogant and intentional moves of the south Korean authorities unwilling to see the genuine dialogue and improvement of relations between the north and the south that the first round of the north-south authorities' talks that had been provided with much effort came to a rupture. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Friday says: Actually the DPRK did not pin much hope on the prospect of the inter-Korean authorities' talks as the south Korean authorities persisted in the confrontation with the compatriots in the north in breach of the August agreement while getting wordy about "dialogue". The DPRK, however, made efforts to settle urgent and easy problems arising in the inter-Korean relations at the talks with the south side, out of desire to bring down the confrontation barrier and pave a broad avenue to national reunification at any cost. The south side assumed completely different attitude at the talks, quite contrary to its vociferous solicitation that it could discuss any issue once the authorities' talks opened. At the talks it persistently rejected the reasonable proposals of the DPRK and came out with a series of unimportant issues, which would be of no help to improving the inter-Korean relations and did not fit the nature of the talks. In the end, it went so shameful as to say that it could not agree without the consent of the U.S. Yet, it impudently trumpeted about the "three channels". Such a situation goes to clearly prove that the inter-Korean relations can not improve even a little and nothing will be resolved even though the dialogue takes place as long as the south Korean authorities get frantic with dependence on outsiders and confrontation with the compatriots in the north. |
