Present there from the north side were representatives of various women's organizations including the Central Committee of the Democratic Women's Union of Korea and from the south side were representatives of women's organizations including the Federation of Women's Organizations, the Women's Solidarity and the Women's Society for Achieving Peace.

Speeches were made by representatives of women's organizations of the north and the south.

The speakers called on the women in the north and the south to value the agreements reached between the two sides and to thoroughly implement them in order to open a fresh turning phase in improving the inter-Korean relations and achieving independent reunification.

They underscored the need to intensify solidarity and unity among the women in the north and the south in the efforts to put an end to confrontation between fellow countrymen and remove the danger of a war on the Korean Peninsula, protect security of the nation and its peace and achieve national reconciliation, unity, peace and reunification.

An appeal to all the Korean women in the north, south and abroad was adopted there.

The appeal said that what the women in the north and the south and all other Koreans want is not antagonism and distrust between fellow countrymen but reconciliation and unity of the nation, and not hostility and confrontation but peace and independent reunification of the country.

It called for defusing the danger of war and putting an end to confrontation between the fellow countrymen on this land and firmly defending security and peace of the nation.

It also called for brisk contacts, visits, solidarity activities and diverse meetings between women's organizations in the north and the south next year to promote the improved inter-Korean relations and achieve national reconciliation and unity.

At the end of the meeting the representatives enjoyed an art performance given by women's organizations of the north and the south.

They toured historic relics in Kaesong area and went round a handicrafts and fine art exhibition.
