Minju Joson Terms Conclusion of Peace Treaty Only Solution to Korean Issue
Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- Of late foreign experts on Korean affairs expressed their freewheeling views on settling the issues of the Korean Peninsula. What merits attention is the fact that they share the view that the U.S. should respond to the DPRK's proposal for concluding a peace treaty.

Commenting on this, Minju Joson Thursday says that such fact goes to prove that whoever has reasonable thought about settling the issues of the Korean Peninsula sympathizes with the importance and urgency to conclude the peace treaty between the DPRK and the U.S.

The commentary goes on:

The DPRK made the proposal for concluding the peace treaty to break a deadlock in dialogue for seeking solutions to the issues of the Korean Peninsula, ensure peace and stability and defuse the tension on the peninsula, clear the U.S. of security concern and usher in a favorable phase for the development of the political situation in the region and the rest of the world.

In fact, it was none other than the U.S. which compelled the DPRK to have access to nuclear weapons and created complexities and deliberate obstacles in the way of settling those matters.

The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula would have found a solution long ago, had the U.S. rolled back its hostile policy towards the DPRK and opted for co-existing with it.

Regrettably, there has been no change in the attitude towards settling the Korean issue.

The U.S. actions to ratchet up sanctions and pressure on the DPRK only compelled it to intensify its counteraction against the former. As a result, the DPRK has grown stronger, far from being weak as expected by the former.

It is as clear as noonday that the U.S. persistent hostile policy towards the DPRK would put it in a more awkward position.

The U.S. would be well advised to opt for a right way for settling the Korean issue.
