DPRK Strives to Update Railways
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The IT Institute under the Ministry of Railways in the DPRK puts spurs to the scientific research for modernization of the country's railways.

In recent years its scientists and technicians have made signal achievements conducive to updating the country's railways. They developed the remote control systems for rail butt welder, overhead crane and CNC turning lathe and the geographical information system needed to ensure regular operation of trains.

They also contributed to the development of subway train, which began its service at the outset of this year.

According to chief engineer Jong Hyon Chol, the Institute plans to concentrate its efforts on perfecting the transport control information system and putting the factories and enterprises of rail transport sector on a CNC and unmanned basis this year.

He declared that the Institute would strive to let the rail transport sector take the lead in this year's general offensive by displaying the principle of giving priority to self-development like nuclear scientists and technicians.

The Institute, founded in February Juche 65 (1976), won the Order of National Flag First Class and the Twice Three-Revolution Red Flag.
