Songnam Primary School Attaches Importance to Table-tennis Education

| Pyongyang, January 20 (KCNA) -- Songnam Primary School in Songchongang District, Hamhung City, is well-known in the general education field of the DPRK for its good operation of table-tennis group. It was awarded the title of the twice model physical training school. The school bagged more than 160 gold medals in the national table-tennis tournaments including the National Schoolchildren's Sports Contest for Jongilbong Prize. It started the operation of the group in the mid-1970s and produced many promising table-tennis players. Table-tennis aces of this school origin number over 30 including People's Athletes Kim Yun Mi and Kim Hyang Mi, Merited Athlete Wi Pok Sun, Ri Pun Hui who was awarded the Joola Prize and Kim Jong who won gold medals in the 52nd ITTF World Championships (individual events) and at the table tennis mixed doubles of the 17th Asian Games. Kim Chol, a sports teacher of the school, told KCNA that he is proud of being an educator when graduates of the school win gold medals in international tournaments. He added he is determined to train many more reserve table-tennis players in the future. |
