Expert of Russian Academy of Sciences Calls for Settling Nuclear Issue in Korean Peninsula through Talks

Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- Alexandr Vorontsov, section chief of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Radio Sputnik of Russia on Jan. 27 called for settling the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula through talks.

Before the nuclear deal of Iran takes effect, the U.S. is applying new sanctions on Iran, he said, adding this contradictory situation makes the DPRK more firmly convinced that it cannot trust the U.S. commitment.

He said that the DPRK is proposing dialogue on an equal footing.

If the U.S. and its allies do not want this but resort to the strength and sanctions against the DPRK, it will adhere to the present stand, he noted.

Sanctions cannot make the DPRK stop its nuclear program, he said, adding: It is clear that dialogue is the only way of settling the nuclear issue.
