Participants in the games will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey and other events in Pyongyang and the sports village in the area of Mt. Paektu.

Present at the ceremony were Ri Il Hwan, department director of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-chairman of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, Vice-Premier Kim Yong Jin, officials concerned, sportspersons and working people.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Ri Jong Mu in an opening speech called upon all players and coaches to intensify training the way anti-Japanese guerrillas did in Mt. Paektu and give full play to the physical and technical ability they have cultivated and the Korean-style playing method in order to bring about good results.

At the end of the ceremony, there took place a premier basketball men's game between the Pyongyang Sports Team and the Sports Team of Kim Chaek University of Technology.
