On this occasion, the Korean people recall the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung to found the Korean People's Army, a new type of revolutionary armed forces.

Just after liberating Korea from Japan's colonial rule through armed struggle Kim Il Sung set the foundation of a strong regular army as an indispensable prerequisite for building an independent and sovereign state.

At that time it was a very difficult task to build a regular army as everything in the country was destroyed by the Japanese imperialists. Some people had asserted that it was hard to found a regular army without other countries' help.

But the President pushed forward the building of a regular army with his strong faith and pluck, despite such obstruction.

He saw to it that such military schools as the Pyongyang Institute and the Central Security Officers School were established to produce military and political officers of all services and arms. And he organized the Security Officers Training Centre as the core unit of a regular army and expanded various units of arms and services on this basis.

Meanwhile, he made a new history of the country's munitions industry, visiting Phyongchon Plain to choose a site for the first munitions factory.

Under such full preparations, he proclaimed the birth of the KPA, regular armed forces developed from the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, in a military parade held in Pyongyang on Feb. 8, Juche 37 (1948).

Thanks to the revolutionary armed forces, the Korean people could defeat the U.S. imperialist aggressors, who boasted of being the "strongest" in the world, displaying the dignity of heroic Korea.

Indeed, Kim Il Sung is a gifted military strategist and an ever-victorious iron-willed commander as he founded the revolutionary army of new type early in his twenties and set an example of times in the building of revolutionary regular armed forces in his thirties.
