A long-term plan was worked out for afforestation in keeping with natural and geographical conditions of the country.

A storehouse with a capacity of millions of saplings was built at the Central Nursery under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection and tens of mother nurseries were moved to areas favorable for sapling cultivation.

Sapling cultivation was put on a highly scientific, industrial and intensive basis, which led to increased production of saplings by 104 percent.

Meanwhile, different kinds of tree-planting machines were developed.

According to Kim Song Jun, vice director-general of the General Bureau of Forest under the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, this year will witness the development of all nurseries across the country into the ones economizing land and manpower.
