Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- South Korean organizations of various circles such as the Bar Association for Democratic Society, Society for Human Rights Movement and the Citizens Solidarity for Democratic Society held a news conference on Feb. 23 in protest against the puppet authorities' move to clear the "bill on preventing terrorism". At the conference, the organizations expressed deep concern about human rights abuse as the bill contains all-inclusive and poisonous provisions granting the Intelligence Service (IS) too much authority regarding intelligence gathering, tracking, etc. They said that it is deplorable for the authorities to try to handle the bill quickly for the mere reason that it is the bill for which the "president" shows concern though the prevailing reality cannot be viewed as wartime and state of emergency. The "government" is hyping the "terror threat from the north", not content with browbeating the people and the "National Assembly," claiming that a state of emergency may be created if it fails to invest the IS with greater authority to watch people, but it failed to explain a concrete reason, they said. |
