Under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party Korea (WPK), the county has been recently spruced up with over 60 projects remodeled.

It was early in March Juche 95 (2006) that leader Kim Jong Il visited the county to walk round cultural, sports and public service facilities newly built in its township and gave instructions to give better accommodation to those on a study tour of Mt. Paektu, the holy mountain of the Korean revolution.

Supreme leader Kim Jong Un visited Samjiyon County in November 2013 and indicated ways to renovate the county, saying that it is the firm determination of the Party to make hurrah for the WPK and socialism resound far and wide from the first township at the foot of Mt. Paektu.

Among projects reconstructed by December last year are the Samjiyon Schoolchildren's Palace, Samjiyon County Hall of Culture, sports village in the area of Mt. Paektu, lodging quarters for participants in study tour of the Samjiyon Revolutionary Battle Site and minor hydraulic power stations.

And the construction of stadium, garment factory, mushroom farm and others were newly completed in the county.
