Ibrahim Mantu, member of the Credit Committee of the People's Democratic Party and chairman of the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Association of Nigeria, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The preparatory committee decided to give wide publicity to the revolutionary feats and careers of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and the struggle of the army and people of the DPRK who turn out in a general offensive for achieving the final victory, and organize colorful political and cultural events on the occasions of the Day of the Sun and the Day of the Shining Star (the birth anniversaries of the great leaders) in 2017.
