U.S. Newspaper Chides S. Korean Human Rights Situation
Pyongyang, March 10 (KCNA) -- The New York Times in an article on March 6 said that people's freedom of expression is suppressed by the puppet ruling forces in south Korea, according to the south Korean Kyunghyang Daily News.

The article cited the case of social activist Pak Song Su who was arrested on charges of libel for scattering leaflets critical of Park Geun Hye. It was views of many people that he became a victim for criticizing the "president," it added.

Recalling that not only international human rights organizations but also the U.S. Department of State have regarded the "Security Law" as one of the means for abridging the freedom of expression, the article noted that under this law, foreigners and overseas Koreans were expelled for praising the north.

Due to the south Korean conservative forces' fear of the north, an attempt to abolish or revise the law was frequently frustrated, it said, and continued:

Since the ferry Sewol sinking accident, the control over websites has been tightened and the prosecutions and courts have been under unabated fire in south Korea for turning their faces away from the people's rights.
