Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- A newly-developed bulk high-pressure frequency converter has proven effective in economic sectors in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The converter, high in power factor and efficiency with no effect on power system, ensures the safety of large-capacity electric equipment. The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex applied this converter to its oxygen heat blast furnace to carry on the production under any power supply condition, with 20 percent less consumption of electricity. The converter was made jointly by the Electric Power Industry Research Institute under the Ministry of Electric Power Industry and the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex. According to Ri Kwang Mun, director of the Institute, the development of the new converter is of weighty significance in ensuring the normal operation of large-capacity electric equipment and turning the country's electricity control system into an electricity-saving one. |
