New-term Chairman of IMGC Elected
Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Ri Yong Son, president of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), was elected to be chairman of the International Martial Arts Games Committee (IMGC) at its 8th general meeting.

He had been active as the deputy secretary general of the IMGC from 2000 to 2003 and was elected president of the ITF in August last year.

The general meeting elected former Chairman of IMGC Jang Ung to be its honorary chairman.

The IMGC, whose final goal is to promote the solidarity and cooperation among persons of martial arts throughout the world and defend the global peace, was founded in Argentina on September 2, 1999, on the initiative of Choe Hong Hui, ex-president of the ITF.

The Committee consists of ITF, World Muay Thai Federation, World Karate Confederation, World Jiu-Jitsu Confederation, World Judo Federation, International Jendo Federation, World Pangration Athlima Federation, World Union of TOA Association and the International Tai Chi Chuan Association.

In the period from 2004 to 2015 there were six rounds of the International Martial Arts Games in Pyongyang, Bangkok, Tallinn, Melbourne and New Delhi.

The IMGC's head office is in Pyongyang.
