New School Year Begins in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The new school year began on Friday in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea where the universal 12-year compulsory education system is enforced.

According to Han Yong Hun, vice-minister of Food and Consumer Goods Industries, all new entrants of primary schools throughout the country were provided with new school uniforms, bags and school things under the care of the Party and the state.

When KCNA visited Pothonggang Primary School in Pothonggang District, Pyongyang, teachers and pupils of senior classes were warmly welcoming the new entrants with colorful tapes and confetti.

Kim Ryong Ju, a newcomer to the school, said he was very grateful to the respected Marshal Kim Jong Il for having provided school uniforms and bags.

His mother Pak Hyon Hui said in tears that she again felt the Workers' Party of Korea's loving care for the younger generation.

Looking with satisfaction at his child study in a multi-functional classroom, Jo Yong Chol said that he would work harder for the socialist system where the children of working people like him can learn to their hearts' content without any school expenses.
