It was rated as the day of clear sky and warm weather, an opportune time to begin farming. Every year about Chongmyong, farmers sowed millets, bean, red bean and vegetables like pumpkin and radish.

According to "Tongguksesigi" written in the 19th century, farmers began plowing on Chongmyong.

And the days about Chongmyong were considered to be the best brewing season.

It is a long-established custom among Koreans to visit ancestral graves on Chongmyong.

Chongmyong falls on April 4 this year.
