Present at the ceremony were Ho Jong Man, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), Vice-Chairman Pae Ik Ju, Vice-Chairwoman Kang Chu Ryon who is chairwoman of the Central Standing Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan, Jang Pyong Thae, rector of the university, Pak Yong Sik, chairman of the board of directors of the university, senior officials of organizations and enterprises, other officials of Chongryon, new students of the university and their parents, teaching staff and students of the university and other Koreans in Japan.

Congratulatory messages from the Education Commission of the DPRK and organs of Chongryon were read out at the ceremony.

Chairman Ho Jong Man in his congratulatory speech said Korea University is a dignified university of overseas Koreans associated with warm loving care of President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il and Marshal Kim Jong Un and the highest seat of national education with a history of fervent patriotism, loyalty and struggle of Koreans in Japan.

It is the greatest honor of the university, warm love for all Chongryon officials and other Koreans in Japan and a historic event guaranteeing the eternity of the movement of Koreans in Japan that Kim Jong Un sent a message to congratulate the teaching staff and students of the university on its 60th birthday, he added.

He called on the students, who entered the university this year marking its 60th birthday, to translate their beautiful dreams and ideals into realities with great ambitions.
