Noting that the President was the pioneer and outstanding leader of the cause of national reunification, the article goes on:

From the very day of the country's division the President set forth scientific and realistic idea and policies for national reunification in each period and at every stage of the developing revolution and made a victorious advance in the cause of reunification.

The joint conference of representatives of political parties and public organizations in north and south Korea held in Pyongyang in April, Juche 37 (1948) on the President's personal initiative and under his guidance was the historic one for saving the destiny of the country and the nation by achieving great national unity under the banner of reunification and patriotism.

The July 4 joint statement the keynote of which is the three principles of national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity-- was adopted, making a breakthrough in improving the frozen north-south relations in the first half of the 1970s and a nationwide patriotic struggle was vigorously waged to curb and frustrate the "two Koreas" plot of the separatists under the banner of the line of one Korea. These were the brilliant fruition of the President's noble patriotism, indefatigable efforts and devotion.

The country and nation faced serious difficulties owing to the moves of the imperialist allied forces and separatists at home and abroad to stifle the DPRK in the 1990s. At that time the President made public the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation, paving a wide avenue for overcoming difficulties with the driving force of the united nation and achieving national reunification and prosperity.

The lines and policies set forth by the President in every period and at every stage of the movement for national reunification reflect his warm love for the country and the nation and his noble intention and will to surely achieve national reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation.

It is the greatest task of all Koreans to achieve national reunification, lifelong wishes and earnest behests of the President and leader Kim Jong Il.
