70th Anniversary of General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea Marked

Pyongyang, April 14 (KCNA) -- The General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea (GFSTK) celebrates the 70th anniversary of its foundation. The GFSTK is a prestigious organization in the DPRK that promotes the development of the nation's science and technology and the work for putting the national economy on a Juche, modern, scientific and IT basis. On April 14, Juche 35 (1946), the Industrial Technology Federation of North Korea (ITF) came into being under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung. In October 1946, Kim Il Sung saw to it that a conference of scientists and technicians doubling as the First ITF Conference was convened. And he made a historic speech "On Present Tasks of Scientists and Technicians" at the conference and took a step to rename the ITF the General Federation of Industrial Technology. The Federation made a great contribution to training talented technicians in the periods of building a new Korea and the postwar rehabilitation and had striven for the country's socialist industrialization, technical revolution and self-supporting economy. Under the care of leader Kim Jong Il, it developed into the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea which groups all scientists and technicians in the agricultural and natural science sectors of the country. The Federation has sponsored science and technology festival every year, making substantial contributions to the nation's science and technology development through diverse sci-tech activities. It guides the April 15 technical innovation shock brigades consisting of tens of thousands of technicians and skilled workers active at many industrial establishments and farms across the country. It has an organizational system in provinces, cities and counties, industrial establishments and co-op farms as well as more than 100 sectional associations and academic societies. |
