It was sponsored by the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea.

Present there were teachers, researchers, technicians and field officials of Kim Il Sung University, the Branch Academy of Railway Science of the State Academy of Sciences, the Research Institute of Maritime Transport under the Ministry of Land and Maritime Transport, Pyongyang University of Railways, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, etc.

It was divided into construction, machine, electricity- automation-information and economy-operation panels.

Its participants heard more than 180 valuable papers dealing with scientific research achievements and experience gained in the fields of railway transport and the land and maritime transport.

During the presentation there took place lectures on the trend of developing transport, scientific and technical problems in modernization. The participants looked round the successes and exhibits displayed by the Branch Academy of Railway Science.
