Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- A project for Chongchongang-Phyongnam irrigation gravity-fed waterway is progressing apace in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The completion of this project will help raise the water level of the Lake Yonphung and supply enough water to the Yoldusamcholli Plain with tens of thousands of hectares of farm fields as well as to industrial establishments in the area. The Phyongnam irrigation is associated with the undying feats of the peerlessly great persons. President Kim Il Sung initiated a large-scale project for the Phyongnam irrigation in September Juche 37 (1948) after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule. And he indicated the orientation and ways for the successful project on the spot. After the Korean War (1950-1953), he saw to it that nation-wide efforts were concentrated on the interrupted project. When the project was completed, he came to the spot and named the reservoir "Lake Yonphung" meaning that the Yoldusamcholli Plain enjoys a rich harvest every year. Later, under leader Kim Jong Il's far-reaching plan for grand nature remaking, the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Waterway project was carried out to put the Phyongnam irrigation on a gravity-fed system, saving many pumping facilities and power. Supreme leader Kim Jong Un advanced the task for building the Chongchongang-Phyongnam irrigation gravity-fed waterway to give full play to the vitality of the Phyongnam irrigation and took all necessary measures for the project. |
