Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- The Kunja Revolutionary Site in the DPRK now draws many citizens with the 84th birthday of the Korean People's Army approaching. The site is associated with the undying feats President Kim Il Sung performed by guiding the munitions production and laying a solid foundation for the nation's self-reliant defence industry during the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War. After Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, Kim Il Sung gave top priority to the foundation of defence industry and saw to it that the country's first arsenal was built at Phyongchon-ri. When the war broke out, he took a step to move the factory to an underground tunnel in Kunja-ri. Then he frequented this underground arsenal, inspiring its workers in the wartime production of weaponry and showing warm care of their living conditions. He took measures to recall the factory's technicians from the front and arrange such welfare facilities as clinic, bathroom and club in the tunnel for the workers and even shared meals with them there. Greatly encouraged by his deep trust and warm love, the Kunjari workers had sharply increased the output of weaponry, including 82mm mortars, submachine guns, bullets and hand grenades, in the spirit of devotedly defending the leader and the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude under the difficult conditions. Today the DPRK is further consolidating the might of its Juche-based defence industry under the uplifted banner of self-development-first principle. |
