Kim Il Sung, who inherited two pistols from his father in his early years, fathered the Songun (military-first) idea based on the principle of attaching importance to the army and the military affairs while making revolution.

At the Kalun meeting in June 1930 and the Mingyuegou meeting in December 1931, he set forth the line of anti-Japanese armed struggle and the idea of waging the armed struggle based mainly on guerrilla warfare.

Then he declared an anti-Japanese war under the slogan "Oppose arms with arms, and oppose counterrevolutionary violence with revolutionary violence!" and founded the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA), the first armed forces of Juche type in Korea, on April 25, 1932. The birth of KPRA made it possible for the Korean people to advance the Korean revolution to victory by dint of arms.

He led the anti-Japanese war to victory to liberate Korea from Japan's colonial rule and developed the KPRA into the Korean People's Army (KPA), regular revolutionary armed forces. In the 1950-1953 Korean War the KPA defeated the U.S. imperialist aggressors boasting of being "the strongest" in the world and reliably defended the freedom and independence of the country.

The KPA is now displaying its might as Kim Jong Un's powerful revolutionary army, the invincible Paektusan army possessed of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's strategy and tactics, the heroic fighting spirit and the perfect capability to fight an actual war.
