The faculty of musical instrument manufacture appeared at the Conservatory in Juche 100 (2011), with a five-year education system. Its mission is to educate students in professional knowledge about the production of traditional and other musical instruments.

Its subjects include the basic education and majors related to the manufacture of keyboard, stringed, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

Some time ago the faculty produced its first-term graduates, who won top prizes at national musical instruments exhibitions in 2013 and 2015. They developed new technologies of making stringed and woodwind instruments with locally available materials.

The birth of the educational system for making musical instruments was thanks to leader Kim Jong Il. In December 2010 he initiated the establishment of this system and gave a detailed instruction for it, referring to the formation of its teaching staff, textbooks and reference books and practice.

Showing deep care for the faculty's operation, supreme leader Kim Jong Un stressed several times the need to put the study and manufacture of traditional instruments on a scientific basis and enroll promising students.
