Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland founded by President Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle. On this occasion, the Korean people are recollecting with deep emotion the feats the President performed for the liberation of the country by rallying people of all strata in the idea of national independence and great national unity. After creating the immortal Juche idea in the early period of the Korean revolution, Kim Il Sung had regarded it as a guarantee for the victory in the revolution to prepare the driving force of the revolution through the unity of the whole nation. He convened the Nanhutou Meeting on February 27, 1936 to put forward a policy on creating a permanent united front organization and expanding the anti-Japanese national united front movement on a nationwide scale in close relationship with the anti-Japanese armed struggle. He pushed ahead with preparations to materialize the policy, and, on this basis, founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland on May 5, 1936. The association was an integrated united front body with regular organizational system embracing all anti-Japanese patriotic forces as well as an underground revolutionary organization which promoted the anti-Japanese struggle for national liberation. It developed into a pan-national organization in a short span of time, having hundreds of thousands of members in different parts of not only the homeland but also Manchuria of China and Japan. Included in the organization were workers, peasants, students, intellects, small or medium merchants and manufacturers, nationalists and patriotic-minded religionists. The association was the first genuine national united front body in the history of the Korean people's anti-Japanese struggle for national liberation. |
