Koreans in Japan Protest Japanese Authorities' Discrimination against Korean Schools
Pyongyang, May 17 (KCNA) -- Those concerned with the Korean schools in Japan including members of Korean schools, the Mothers Society of Korean Schools, the Korean Middle and High School Students Committee and the Liaison Society of Korean High School Graduates in Kanto area visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan on May 10 to protest the unreasonable discrimination against the Korean schools in Japan.

They handed the letter of protest and written request adopted at the meeting held at the educational hall in Japan on April 20 and the emergency meeting of mothers on April 8 addressed to the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

They denounced the Japanese government for exempting the Korean schools from the tuition-free program for senior high schools and payment of subsidies for political reasons.

The headmaster of Saitama Korean Primary Middle and High School disclosed the unfairness of the notice "Points of consideration in paying subsidies to Korean schools" the ministry sent to the governors of the urban and rural prefectures where the Korean schools were operated.

They urged the government and the ministry of Japan to sincerely accept the immediate lifting of discriminating measure as recommended by the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

Meanwhile, Koreans in various parts of Japan are staging ceaseless protest actions in demand of the Japanese authorities' lifting of discrimination against Korean schools.
