National Workshop on World Migratory Birds Day Heldols
Pyongyang, May 17 (KCNA) -- A national workshop took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Tuesday on the occasion of the World Migratory Birds Day.

Present there were officials and experts in environment protection of ministries and national institutions including the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection and the Central Committee of the Nature Conservation Union of Korea, scientific and research organs and relevant fields, members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership, the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany, the Syrian ambassador to the DPRK and a staff member of the German embassy here.

Speeches were made.

Speakers said that many migratory birds fly beyond boundaries of various countries, expanding the ecological border international- and regional- and world-wide.

The present situation where commercial use of birds and trade in them are becoming brisk on world-wide underscores the importance of migratory birds in promoting mankind's well-being and conserving natural environment, they noted, underlining the need for international cooperation and exchange of knowledge and information.

The participants looked round photos introducing various species of migratory water birds.
