Guidelines for Socialist Architecture

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Twenty-five years has passed since leader Kim Jong Il made public his famous work "On Architecture" on May 21, Juche 80 (1991), to provide the guidelines for developing architecture under socialism. On the scientific analysis of the relations between the architecture and society, the architecture and mankind, Kim Jong Il in the work expounded the essence, characteristics and mission of socialist architecture, the position and role of architecture in social development and the fundamentals in socialist architecture. In particular, he formulated architecture as a composite art and pointed out in detail the orientation and ways for ensuring the architectural formative art on a high level. The work has served as a theoretical and practical guide in developing architecture to gratify the interests and demands of the popular masses as well as the basic principles which systematized in an overall way all problems arising in socialist architecture. With the guidelines, the Korean army and people had built many edifices across the country even under the grave situation in which they had to stand in confrontation with the U.S.-led imperialist allied forces. Those edifices include large hydro-power stations built in Anbyon, Thaechon and Huichon. Kim Jong Il's idea on Juche-based architecture is now successfully carried forward by supreme leader Kim Jong Un, and the architecture in the DPRK serves entirely for the promotion of the people's wellbeing. |
