Hot Spell Lingers in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has been experiencing exceptionally warm weather from May 17, affected by hot air from the southward. Abnormal temperature of over 30 degrees Celsius persists in different parts of the country. On May 17-18, the mean air temperature at noon throughout the country was respectively 25.7 and 27.7 degrees Celsius, 4.5 to 6.1 degrees higher than the average. On May 18, 23.8 to 32.4 degrees Celsius were observed in Hoeryong City of North Hamgyong Province, Kapsan County of Ryanggang Province, Koksan County of North Hwanghae Province, Anak County of South Hwanghae Province, Phyongsong City of South Phyongan Province and Kosan County of Kangwon Province, the central and northern inland areas of the country. It was the highest temperature since the weather observation. In particular, 30 to 32.7 degrees Celsius were recorded in some parts of the east costal, northern and central inland areas. The country's mean air temperature on May 19 was 28.3 degrees Celsius, 6.5 degrees higher than the average. 30 to 33.8 degrees Celsius were seen in its overall parts, except the northern inland area in the west coast and the central northern area in the east coast. Difference of temperature at noon and night in the period stood at 17.2 to 18.7 degrees Celsius, 5.1 to 6.7 degrees Celsius larger than the average. Such weather is forecast to continue for coming days. |
