Director of CPRK Secretariat Calls for Opening Broad Avenue to National Reunification and Prosperity
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- Won Tong Yon, director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK), issued a statement on Sunday, stressing that the line and policy for national reunification, set forth by supreme leader Kim Jong Un at the 7th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, are a product from his noble moral obligation and historic mission to bring the reunified country to the fellow countrymen. The line and policy serve as an eternal inspiring banner in the struggle to pull down the barriers of national division and open a broad avenue to the reunification of the country, it added.

If all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas turn out in a nationwide patriotic movement for reunification, upholding the said line and policy, the extremely deteriorated north-south relations will be improved and a broad avenue to independent reunification opened, greatly contributing to peace and security of the Korean peninsula and the world, the statement said, adding:

Dialogue and negotiations are a basic way for mending the bedeviled north-south relations and reunifying the country peacefully in conformity with the desire and will of the fellow countrymen.

For the present, it is necessary to have dialogue and negotiations between the north-south military authorities as soon as possible.

The north and the south should take a substantial step to defuse the military tension and danger of conflict in the areas along the Military Demarcation Line and hot spot in the west sea and expand its sphere as the climate of military trust is created.

It is more important to maintain at north-south dialogue the position and stand of respecting and constantly implementing the agreements common to the nation.

If the north-south agreements are nullified according to the change in situation and regime, any agreement to be reached between the two sides through dialogue will be of no use.

The north and the south should respect and implement the historic agreements made before the nation and the world, including the three principles for national reunification and the north-south joint declarations, no matter how the situation and climate may change.

If the south Korean authorities truly have a willingness to improve the north-south relations, they should abandon the conception of confrontation with their fellow countrymen aimed at "change" or "collapse of system", turn to the stand for national harmony and reunification to create a climate for north-south dialogue and immediately come out for dialogue and negotiations in response to our patriotic appeal.
