Its participants will compete in more than 40 events including football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis and tennis in Pyongyang, Hyesan, Hamhung, Phyongsong and other cities,.

Present at the opening ceremony were officials concerned, sports persons, citizens and school youth and children in Hyesan.

Kim Pyong Sik, vice-minister of Physical Culture and Sports, said in an opening address that all players and coaches should make this contest an important occasion in developing technique in various sports events by fully displaying their sports technique.

At the end of the ceremony there was a basketball game between the Pyongyang Sports Team and the Sobaeksu Sports Team.
