Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace in Pyongyang

Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, is a modern comprehensive extracurricular education center for schoolchildren and a pedigree establishment for training them into talents. Seen on the upper part of its main building are letters reading "We Are the Happiest in the World" and "Dash toward Future." At the palace with various hobby groups, schoolchildren cultivate their talents to the full to become promising scientists, athletes and artists for the nation, enjoying the benefits of the advantageous socialist education system. Over the last two decades, the palace has produced a large number of professional artists and athletes, winners of literary prize and other talents. Nearly 1,000 graduates of it are now active as singers or instrumentalists at professional art troupes, including famous Moranbong and Chongbong bands. And at least 1,100 have played an important role in the development of the country's sports. Among them are Ri Se Gwang, a twice world champion who won the titles at the 45th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships and other international tournaments and presented "Ri Se Gwang Movement", and Ro Song Hui who bagged gold medals at the 12th World Taekwon-Do Championships and other international games. The palace gives a glimpse of the DPRK's educational development and rosy future. |
