South Koreans Determined to Fight for Independence
Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- Broad sections of south Korean people including reunification activists, democratic figures, religionists, workers, women and students held a memorial service for Kang Hui Nam, first chairman of the South Headquarters of the Pan-National Alliance for Korea's Reunification, before the U.S. embassy in Seoul on June 5, according to the south Korean online paper Minjok Ilbo.

The speakers recalled that Kang committed suicide on June 6, 2009 after leaving behind a written will in which he called for another June popular uprising for punishing murderer Lee Myung Bak.

Having a love for the nation and hatred for dictatorship, Kang sacrificed his life for the nation without hesitation and fought for the independence in south Korea to the last moments of his life, they said.

Democracy and reunification are not guaranteed without independence, which is the lifeblood and lifeline of south Koreans, they noted, adding that they would fight it out for independence braving the suppression.

They showed their determination to fight for the conclusion of a peace treaty, national reunification by federal formula, withdrawal of the U.S. troops and abolition of the "Security Law".
