Ecological Water Purification Technology Developed in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Researchers of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University in the DPRK developed a technology of purifying water through artificial floating garden and introduced it to the Pothong River in central Pyongyang, the capital city of the country.

According to a researcher Man Ho Song, the floating flower garden on the river is based on one of the advanced water purification technologies and it is good not only for water purification but also for sightseeing.

He said:

We confirmed through an experiment that the float cultivation method could be applied to the production of rice.

On this basis we conducted experiments with flowering plants and selected more than 10 species of them that would take roots in the river to purify water while having an ornamental effect.

The area of floating flower garden is about 600 square meters, and the results of its experiment in a closed interval showed that the degree of water purification was 90 percent.

Accordingly, it is possible to purify at least 95 percent of the river when such floating flower gardens are displayed in 25-30 percent of its water surface area.
