DPRK Makes Progress in Development of Cermet Tools
Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) -- Kim Il Sung University in the DPRK has recently developed a Ti(C, N)-based cermet cutting tool.

This tool is highly resistant to wear and oxidation while having good adiabatic toughness and red hardness.

It is two to three times longer than cemented carbide cutting tool in serviceable life and 30 to 50 percent lower in production cost.

The test showed that its cutting efficiency is three times that of cemented carbide tool.

According to Son Tong Chol, a researcher of the Material Science Faculty of the university, the newly-developed tool will help develop the nation's machine-building industry onto a higher level.
