In each period of the developing revolution, the WPK had aroused all servicepersons and civilians to a campaign for bringing about great upswing in production and construction and thus opened the heyday of grand socialist construction in the country.

In the 1950s when almost everything in the country was reduced to ashes due to the U.S.-provoked war, President Kim Il Sung started a history of great Chollima upswing by arousing the workers at the Kangson Steel Plant to create the Chollima speed in the postwar rehabilitation.

In the period, the Korean workers turned out 120,000 tons of steel at the blooming mill with a capacity of 60,000 tons and manufactured large water pump, truck, tractor and other vehicles and machines with their own efforts and technology.

As a result, the country's five-year economic plan was carried out two years and a half ahead of schedule and the socialist industrialization realized in a matter of 14 years.

The history of great Chollima upswing, made in the 50's and 60's, was followed up by the onward movements based on a speed campaign in decades.
