Chairman of the National Defence Commission Kim Jong Il devoted himself to accomplishing the cause of Korea's reunification.

He firmly defended safety of the country and the nation under the banner of Songun, provided the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration, the programme for implementing it, and thus ushered in the era of By the Korean Nation Itself and the new era of independent reunification. This is the great exploit performed by him.

All the Koreans in the north, the south and abroad followed him as the lodestar of reunification, and the spirit for reunification against the U.S. ran high in south Korea.

Another article titled "Realistic proposal for Korea's reunification" said that it is not only the cherished desire of the Korean people but also the demand of the world progressive humankind to put an end to the confrontation between the north and the south and reunify Korea.

The DPRK had made all sincere efforts for the reunification on the Korean peninsula.

In order to reunify Korea, all the Korean people in the north, the south and abroad should turn out as one in the sacred struggle for reunification and replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty and drive the U.S. troops out of south Korea.
