There took place a ceremony in New York on June 11 at which the joint declaration was read out to be followed by speeches.

The speakers said that Korea should be reunified independently and peacefully in the idea of By Our Nation Itself, the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.

They noted that the meeting of the chairmen of the north, the south and overseas of All-Korean Committee for Implementation of June 15 Joint Declaration held in mid-May discussed measures to strictly preserve the three principles of national reunification of the July 4 joint statement, the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and carry them out to promote the national reconciliation and unity and the improved north-south relations and pave a wide avenue to peace and independent reunification, and to briskly conduct events common to the nation and various solidarity activities.

They expressed belief that the U.S. Regional Committee of the Overseas Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration would discharge its responsibility and role in the drive for national reunification in firm unity under the banner of the joint declaration.

They vowed to wage a more dynamic struggle to bring about the second June 15 era of reunification.
