Australian Ambassador to DPRK Clarifies Stand to Develop Friendly Relations with DPRK
Pyongyang, June 24 (KCNA) -- William Paterson, ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia to the DPRK, and his party met officials concerned of the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK including Choe Hui Chol, director general of the Asian and Oceanian Department, and Ma Tong Hui, director of the Disarmament and Peace Institute, between June 20 to 24, 2016.

The DPRK side informed the Australian side in detail of the principled stand of the DPRK government to expand and develop friendly relations with the Commonwealth of Australia in the political, economic, cultural and other fields irrespective of the change of situation in the idea of foreign policy of independence, peace and friendship as well as its stand on the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and the issue of the north-south relations.

The Australian side informed the DPRK side of its opinion on several issues of regional and mutual concern including the Korean peninsula in a frank and candid manner, and confirmed that it would in the future, too, recognize the DPRK as a sovereign state and not take hostile stand toward it. It also took note of the DPRK side's stand that the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK has massive impact on ensuring peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.

Both sides had an in-depth discussion of ways of developing friendly relations between the DPRK and the Commonwealth of Australia in an amicable atmosphere.

The ambassador and his party looked round several cooperation projects including gravity-fed drinking water supply project completed in Tongrim County Township, North Phyongan Province with the fund the Australian government provided through international organizations.
