Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea; Kenki Nakamura, chairman of the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange; Shingo Kanemaru, advisor to the Tokyo-Pyongyang Rainbow Bridge; Dewi Sukarno, honorary chairperson of the Society for Disseminating and Supporting Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia; Tokuji Yanagisawa, deputy chief director of the Japan-Korea Cultural Interchange Association; and Kiichi Tsunoda, co-representative of the Gunma Prefectural People's Council for Japan-Korea Friendship and Solidarity; were elected co-chairpersons of the preparatory committee.

The preparatory committee decided to take part in the activities of the International Preparatory Committee for the 2017 Meeting Praising Great Persons of Mt. Paektu and organize colorful political and cultural events including a meeting for friendship between Japan and the DPRK.
