Pyongyang, June 25 (KCNA) -- Norwegian Ambassador to the DPRK Jan Ole Grevstad presented his credentials to Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK. The ambassador met with officials concerned including a vice minister of Foreign Affairs and the ambassador for human rights from June 20 to 24. Both sides discussed the issue of developing the bilateral relations in the common interests of the peoples of the two countries and had an in-depth exchange of views on the present situation on the Korean peninsula. The DPRK side said that to defuse tension and preserve stability cannot be realized only by the unilateral efforts of the DPRK as the root cause of escalating tensions on the peninsula is attributable to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and nuclear threat to it. The DPRK side also said that the U.S. reckless act of ceaselessly introducing its strategic assets into the Korean peninsula and its vicinity is compelling the DPRK to take new stronger steps for bolstering its nuclear deterrence both in quality and quantity. It stressed that the U.S. will bitterly feel that its recent introduction of strategic assets such as nuclear-powered submarine Mississippi into the peninsula is a very rash act and strategically wrong decision. The Norwegian side expressed hope to see distrust between the DPRK and the U.S. defused and the nuclear issue settled. |
