Upon the authorization of Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, a vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) was appointed as chairman of the preparatory committee and leading officials of the DPRK government, political parties and organizations as vice-chairpersons and members.

The preparatory committee decided to take practical measures for realizing the great nationwide meeting for reunification in close cooperation with the authorities, political parties, organizations and reputed figures in south Korea and abroad.
