Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The Kangjong Village Council, All-Islanders Measure Committee for Checking the Building of Jeju Naval Base and Building Peaceful Island and the Measure Council for Checking the Building of Jeju Naval Base in south Korea released a joint statement on June 29. It recalled that the Ad Hoc Committee for Probing the Truth behind the Ferry Sewol Disaster in its first report on probe into the truth on June 27 clarified that the ferry was carrying iron bars to the Jeju naval base. Noting this fact was revealed two years after the occurrence of the accident, the statement said all suspicions including the linkage of the naval base construction to the ferry disaster and the "government's" responsibility should be probed, though belatedly. Noting the fact that the ferry was transporting to the Jeju naval base iron bars, one of the key reasons for its sinking, had not been clarified by the joint investigation headquarters in its investigation results, it said there are various other suspicions that require explanation besides this. Saying that other materials were being carried, it urged the clarification of whether they were for naval base construction or not. It accused the "government" of showing mean behavior such as pressurizing the ad-hoc committee to stop its activities. All truths about the ferry disaster should be thoroughly probed, it held. |
